Here are 15 memories & things you may not know about David:
1) "The tree house caper! When David was young, his older sister Tami dropped a hammer on his head. He had to get Stitches! : ( First time ever in his life!” – Debbie Harris (mom)
2) "One time when they were little David and Tami were being very quiet and I thought they were napping. To my surprise David was colored with magic markers to look like a clown. Back then markers were more permanent! David looked like he belonged in a circus for weeks.” – Debbie Harris
3) "I remember one time he wanted to go to Skip’s Country Store but it was late and I knew they were closed. Anyway, David just would not accept my word for it and after about two hours of non-stop asking, I finally relented and took him to the store, thinking that he would finally understand that I was not just putting him off. Of course I had to watch while he screamed and banged on the door until he “finally” got tired so we could return home. You may have noticed that he is still just as stubborn but hopefully a little more mature about it.” – David Harris (Dad)
4)“When David was small we used to go away once a year for his birthday. On one of these trips we drove to Connecticut and took a ferry across the Long Island Sound to Orient Point on the tip of Long Island and took our time driving the length of the island to a camping spot about 45 minutes outside of New York City. The next day we drove into the city to see the Statue of Liberty. Well the whole way up, David and I had an argument about what color she was. I said she was white and David insisted she was green. We finally got there and there she was as green as she could be. So as you can see it is my fault that David thinks he is always right, because as he grew up, he usually was right when I was around to be wrong.” – David Harris
5) "Mad bomber when he skis, falls asleep when he watches TV, second only to Blair in picking in the Amazing Race & NCAA tournament, never-ending source of energy on the soccer field, how good he is on home projects (i.e.. 6) "David works with a group of 12 & 13 year old young men, and it is very impressive to me to see the time and care that he puts into his work with these boys. He takes an active interest in their lives and cares about each one of them. As a result, they listen to him when he teaches, and do their best to follow what he says” – Greg Sherwood
7) "Did my mom tell you about the time my mom's friend told David she would buy worms from him. (I don't know if she was being nice or if she was planning to fish with them.) Anyway, they agreed on a price per worm and David went out digging. He came back with the worms and announced the grand total. However, upon further investigation, my mom's friend discovered that David had cut each worm in half in an effort to double his earnings! She got mad, reprimanded David, and took her business elsewhere.” – Tami Harris Bean (sister)
8) "David had quite an interest in bugs and reptiles when he was a kid as well. I swear he would just sit and read those bug and reptile encyclopedias cover to cover. He spent hours turning over rocks and and such looking for some new bug. Really, it was gross! I remember one of his pet snakes got loose in the house. We looked everywhere for it and could not find it. David was in big trouble for losing it in the house, but eventually we all forgot about it. Then one day my mom was putting away David's socks and what did she discover? The snake curled up in the sock drawer... dead!” – Tami Bean
9) "It should be noted while we are talking about David, that he was the most inquisitive kid to walk the earth. He was always asking questions. David went through a faze where he liked to hide his tape recorder and record peoples conversations without them knowing. I guess he figured he would discover all sorts of cool information that way. Well, I found one of those tapes one day and it has David's little innocent voice at the dinner table asking one question after another about anything and everything you could think of. It was so funny... so David!” – Tami Bean
10) "It is really a miracle that David is even alive. When we were little we lived on a very busy main road. Our mailbox was on the opposite side of the road from our house. One day my dad went out to get the mail and left David and I in the house. David was crying because he wanted to go with our dad. Being the indulgent sister that I am, I opened the door and let him out. Out ran David down the driveway and right into the road. My dad's heart stopped as he heard car brakes locking and turned to see David in the middle of this main road just wanting to help out with the mail.” – Tami Bean
11) "Once Debbie and Tami met David and I down in Charlotte. I don’t remember exactly what we were doing down there but I think we were shopping for some furniture or something. Anyway, when we were done, we decided to go to dinner at Lotus restaurant back in Mooresville before going home. I remember there was some discussion about who was going with whom but as usual I was thinking about something else and was not really paying much attention. So I left to drive my car back to Mooresville and as normal for me I just put my head down and hauled butt. So I got to Lotus restaurant before anyone else and I was just waiting in the parking lot for Debbie, Tami and David to get there. So when they did finally get there, they didn’t have David because they thought he was with me and I thought he was with them. Anyway, you can imagine the worry and at that time not many people had cell phones and we certainly didn’t have one, so there was no way to call David. All we could do was drive back to Charlotte where we found David calmly waiting for our return.” – David Harris
12) "When David was in High School he fled from the cops while trying to avoid a speeding ticket. He ended up turning into a neighborhood and pulling up someone’s drive way in the hopes of turning the car off quickly and then ducking to avoid the cop seeing their car. He ended up crashing into the person’s garage and the cop found them anyways! Luckily all he had to do was repair the garage, no ticket was issued.” – Anonymous
13) "Remember after Clara was first born?...we had to really coax David into holding her. He was very nervous, because he had never really held a baby that small. She was very still and peaceful in his arms until all of the sudden sweet Clara’s little bum exploded with a huge, loud poop. David was SOOO startled. 14) "When David and I first met each other I invited him to skip class with me and go to a soccer game. He thought it was a date, but I just thought we were going as friends. One of our mutual friends even told me David wasn’t interested in me like that. Well David interpreted it as a date and we still argue to this day whether or not that was our first date!” – Natalie (Wife)
15) "When we first started dating David and I would ride together to church on Sundays. One Sunday when I went to pick him up, he opened the door with his shirt off claiming to be ironing his Sunday best. I still tease him to this day about trying to show off his muscles to me.” – Natalie
