Ward Camp Out

A couple of weekends ago we had our annual family camping trip, aka the ward camp out. I don't think I am brave enough to camp on our own nor for more than a day at a time.

Not sleeping for one night is hard enough as it is. I can't imagine doing that several nights in a row. Plus at the ward camp out they bring all the food for you and get the fire started!

And of course there are lots of friends to visit and play with.

Finley enjoyed playing football with the boys.

Although he was slightly disappointed they didn't play capture the flag late into the night.

He still had a great time getting all that energy out.

I enjoyed visiting with my girl Emily.

And Finley loves playing with her boys Thomas and Jackson.

We tried to get to bed at a reasonable hour. And while Finley and I were reading Harry Potter . . .

David passed out! Not a huge surprise there.

After being woken up at the crack of dawn by a loud bird and the urge to use the bathroom that was about a half a mile away we were up for the day! Only a few families camped out, but luckily there were more kids around Finley's age than last time. Another successful ward camp out! Maybe we can be convinced to go for longer if we go with friends!

Strawberry Pickin'!

Mother's Day weekend we headed over to our favorite farm to pick strawberries. Ingram farm is a family owned business that has strawberry picking, bees, goats, a barn full of animals, and a country store. It is our favorite place to pick year after year!

This was our first time going the Saturday before Mother's Day and it was crowded!

Luckily the weather was beautiful and not too hot.

We picked way more strawberries than we normally do because I wanted to make lots of jam!

After our picking we visited the goats.

And the baby goats!

We were hoping to get some strawberry ice cream too, but the line was too long and we still had lots to get done that day.

We ended up making 10 jars of freezer jam and still had a huge tray of strawberries left. Ooops! A few too many because some ended up going bad before we could eat them up.

On Mother's Day we were able to have my parents and David's parents over for dinner and for dessert we had angel food cake with strawberries and homemade whipped cream. Yum! I am hoping that maybe we can get out there and pick one more time before it is too late. Fresh strawberries are the best!

Finley's Birthday & Pokemon Party!

A couple of weeks ago our little man turned 7! On his actual birthday we kept things low key. He got to open his presents from mom and dad in the morning before school.

David met him at school for lunch and then that night we went out to McDonald's (his favorite) and sweet frog for dessert. I didn't even bake him a cake on his actual birthday! I hope that doesn't make me a bad mom.

Grammie & Abuelo were in town and got to join us as well.

After opening presents Finley and David had a fun light saber battle.

And then we made Finley go to bed on time. We are such mean parents! But I think he still had a great day.

A few weeks later we threw him a Pokemon themed birthday party.
Here are the Poke ball invitations that we made.

I tried to keep things a little simpler this year and not over do it. For the favor bags I ordered these cute containers for a quarter machine and painted them to look like poke balls.

Then I put these tiny Pokemon characters inside. They were super cute, but kind of hard for the kids to open.

I also saw this cute idea of turning bunny peeps into Pikachu pops.

I am glad I saw this early enough to get them before Easter was over! We decorated the faces with edible pens and then dipped the ears in melted chocolate.

Does it look close to the real thing?

The final goodie bag had the Pikachu pops, Poke balls with character inside, a Pokemon card, tattoo, bouncy ball, stickers, and some M & Ms.

We hosted the party at a nearby recreation center.

We rented out a room and the gym for our Pokemon extravaganza!

The birthday boy was super excited, while I turned into what David calls 'Partyzilla'.

As the children arrived we had some arts and craft activities for them to do. They could make some Pikachu hats with ears.

Complete some Pokemon mazes and coloring sheets.

And fold up this adorable Pikachu puppet. This puppet was David's idea and we spent a long time cutting them out and getting them ready.

They were kind of hard to fold and assemble so parents had to help a lot with that too!

Here's the gang right before we headed into the gym. I think we had about 20 kids there! Next year we are definitely going smaller.

Finley really wanted to play Poke ball for his birthday.

Not really knowing what that meant I suggested we play dodge ball and call it Poke ball. He agreed so we ran with it!

To start off we had a few games with kids versus kids.

Some of the kids got out right away, while others hid against the back wall where the kids couldn't reach with their throws.

So then we allowed them to kick the balls too.

We had a boys versus girls game too. The boys won, but there were also more of them!

A few kids ended up in tears from getting out or injured by flying balls.

We ended with a parents versus kids game.

And let's just say some of the parents didn't want to take it easy on the kids.

But luckily no one was seriously injured.

After an hour of playing everyone was really sweaty and worn out! Time for cake and food!

We had a few Pokemon themed items to snack on.

These capreses were supposed to look like Pokemon balls.

And so was the fruit, but I am not sure that came across too well.

For cake we had lemon flavored cup cakes (Finley's favorite).

Some I decorated to look like Pokemon balls and the others I just stuck one of the marshmallow Pikachus on top of it.

The big cake was a giant Poke ball. Pretty simple and easy to do on your own.

Finley really enjoyed getting to see and play with all his friends!

The kids seemed to have a good time and even though I stressed out a little I think we pulled it off thanks to the help of David, Grammie, Abuelo, and Mimi!

Happy Birthday sweet Finley! We hope you had an amazing day! We love you to pieces!
