Ever since Finley has been into Minecraft he has wanted to try out 'real' mining. We finally had an opportunity to head up towards the mountains to a little town called Hiddenite to do some mining at Emerald Hollow Mine. We figured Finley would probably have more fun with a friend so we invited his best friend Jake to join us.
We started off doing some sluicing aka panning using some 'seeded' buckets.
The area where we were was known for emeralds. So anything green that Finley found in his dirt was of course an emerald!
They got really excited about all the pretty rocks they found.
According to our little experts, these rocks are worth millions!
After sluicing and a lunch break we headed down to the creek to do some creeking aka panning in the creak area.
The boys first inclination was to collect all the biggest rocks they could find. That is until I made them carry what they found. I said, you can bring home any or as many rocks as you like, but you have to carry them!
So eventually they settled on some smaller rocks. I am not sure we found any rocks worth much in the creek, but they had a great time walking in the water and digging in the dirt.
Our day was a messy but fun experience! Now the boys want to sell all of their rocks for money. The bidding starts at $100. Good luck boys!
