Trip to NYC!

Since the poopies weren't able to come home for Christmas, we headed up to NYC to see them! We left Christmas afternoon which turned out to be a not too busy travel day and also a cheaper option then leaving the day after Christmas.

When we arrived at our Air B n B, Mash and Deez had gone all out decorating the place with little stockings (aka socks), bows, and even a small Christmas tree. 

Since Michelle and Donovan had a break from their show that night we ordered in Indian food and played some family board games.

It was a super low key evening and we had so much fun visiting and stuffing our faces with delicious food.

We booked our Air B n B in Brooklyn just a few blocks away from where Michelle and Donovan live so we could be close to them and spend as much time as possible with them.

The place we rented was super cute and very spacious! We had two bedrooms and a couch that converted into a bed that Finley slept on.

It was also really nice to have a kitchen and refrigerator where we could make breakfast and heat up left overs.

The next day we bundled up to brave the absolutely freezing NYC weather. Grammie and Abuelo had given us these heat layers for our trip. Finley and I wore them every single day under our clothes. David could not be persuaded.

The first full day we were there David ended up having to attend some depositions in the city. It worked out well that we were already going to be in NYC, but we were sad he missed out on spending the day with us.

It was really hard to leave the house before lunch everyday with our crew, but that's ok! We weren't really ever in a rush to get anywhere. We were able to meet Mash and Deez for brunch most mornings before they had to head over to the theater.

It was so freezing up in New York that really we had to stick with indoor options all day. We went to visit an awesome Lego store.

They had plenty of huge structures made out of Legos to impress us!

And even some hands on activities. After shopping around a bit it was time for dinner!

We met up with my friend from college Amy and her wife Jayne. They live in CT and drove into the city to meet us for dinner and the show with only a week's heads up! Talk about great friends! David was done with work and also able to join us just in time for dinner.

My sister's dance company Dorrance Dance, had a two week run at the Joyce theater. We were so excited to get to see it! My brother also helped compose the music for the second half of the show. Who are these amazing people!?!

Every single one of her shows was sold out! Woot woot! And she even had some fun celebs come see her show like Tony Danza and Bill Irwin.

But of course we were the most important people to come and watch! My aunt Chantal, her husband Bruce, and my Aunt Maggie also drove up for the show! Unfortunately they got caught in awful traffic so missed getting to visit with us during dinner :(. But they made it just in time for the show! 

They next day we again ventured out into the frozen wasteland also known as NYC.

We went to go see what was left of FAO Schwarz at Bergdorf Goodman a very expensive retail store. 

There was only a very small section of toys left, but we did enjoy seeing the price tags on some ridiculously priced clothes and home wares. Who spends $500 on a sun dress for a baby? Who?!

We then headed over to Rockefeller Center to see lots of fun Christmas decorations in the store windows and of course the huge tree! While we were there they were cleaning the skating rink, but there was a super long line of people waiting to skate. It was like 19 degrees out though so we just kept moving!

Our main event for the day was seeing the musical School of Rock!

Finley has been watching the School of Rock TV show and was super excited to see it. The show did not disappoint! The music was fun and the children musicians were amazing! And yes they really do sing and play their instruments live!

Our final full day in NYC we just kind of spent it running around the city! We tried to go to the MET but there was an hour long line in the cold just to get inside. We tried to go to the Guggenheim, but also another long line outside just to go in. I guess we kind of forgot that NYC is a huge touristy place especially during the Christmas holiday and leading up to New Year's Eve.  Instead we drove through time square and went to watch an open rehearsal my sister's company was having. 

Both my parents went to the show another night while we were there, but we had enough late nights with little man and didn't want to push our luck so we headed back to the air b n b early.

Have I mentioned how cold it was in NYC? Never again! Next time we are heading south!

One of the dancers in Michelle's show is Melinda Sullivan, a famous tap dancer who was on So You Think You Can Dance and also in La La Land. At one point during the show she puts on a mustache and sings. Finley kept imitating her all week long. When Melinda found out she sent Finley a note and his very on mustache. 

He wore it all the way home. 

Even though NYC was freezing we had such a blast seeing the show, visiting with Michelle and Donovan, and even doing a few fun touristy things. We ate we too much and of course spent way too much money but it was all worth it! Best of all my mom was able to make the trip and hang tough the whole week! #Blessings #Christmasmiracles
