State Fair

Last week we skipped out of school/work a little early and headed over to the State Fair in Raleigh!
Up first is always a trip through the Old Grist Mill to get some free hush puppies. Yum!

Next we made our way over to the rides before they got too busy. While waiting in line we were treated to an acrobatic show.

Finley wanted to go on a roller coaster all by himself. Since this one was relatively slow and low to the ground we allowed it.

My favorite ride is always the swings. So Finley and I were able to do the 'baby' swings together.

I use to think Finley had a fear of heights, but he seems to have conquered it.

He also went down the super slide all by himself.

We were really lucky that we had a nice warm day to go to the fair.

It was crowded, but not too bad.

Finley's favorite 'ride' was this fun house with the iconic Grease moving tunnel. He loved it so much he did this one twice!

We also enjoyed this new superman ride.

But what really caught Finley's eye this year were the games. He really wanted to win a Pikachu doll, but I explained to him how many times he would have to play to win it and that we could buy him one for way cheaper.

He insisted on playing a game so we told him he could only play once. He opted for a balloon popping game where everyone who plays gets a prize. He won this little red bull. Which unfortunately he lost at school the other day :(. But he enjoyed it while he had it!

We enjoyed seeing this cool robot wheeling around, but weren't allowed close enough to touch it or take a picture with it.

Our last ride of the night is always the Ferris Wheel.

It's definitely the most dangerous ride we do, but the view is worth it.

After chowing down on some fried food and sweet treats we headed over to some of the exhibits. I always love seeing the cakes, quilts, and award winning crafts! One of our friends from church won a blue ribbon for her quilt. Way to go Lorena!

We also had fun at the field of dreams area where Finley got to pretend to be a farmer.

A new addition this year was a cool tractor power wheel.

And immediately after I took this picture Finley drove the tractor straight into a sign. I think it is a good thing he is about ten years away from driving!

We stopped off over at the UNC TV area and met Super Why.

And I really enjoyed posing with the cast of Downton Abbey.

We stopped off at the safety tent and got some more free stuff and fun pictures. By this point we were getting really tired. On our way out we hit up the section with all the gardens and flowers (my favorite part) before heading home.

We had a great time at the fair but wished we could have stayed longer! Next year I think we are just going to have to play hooky the whole day so that we can see and do everything and spend more time in the exhibit area :).
