We had big plans for our 15 year anniversary last year, but then COVID hit and we couldn't celebrate the way we wanted to. A year later we decided to make up for our missed anniversary and celebrate our sweet 16 by going to the US Open with our friends Greg and Nicolle!
Traveling in COVID times is always a bit nerve wracking. We double masked on the plane with N-95 masks and that helped us feel safer!
We got in late on Labor day night to our air b n b in the projects in Queens lol.
The following morning Greg took us on a ridiculous 6 mile run and I almost died. We did get to see some cool sights from the old world's fair (and Men In Black)!
Our first day in the city we had tickets to the night session of the US Open so we decided to hit up the MET during the day.
We enjoyed seeing famous sculptures by Rodin.
And art and sculptures from Degas.
I just love the ballet paintings and sculptures!
Makes me think of my amazing and beautiful ballerina mama!
Then of course we had to see some nice sunflowers by Monet.
Posing with a Van Gogh self portrait.
Gorgeous water lilies from Monet.
Love the sky in this Van Gogh piece.
And this pixilated painting by Seurat.
My friend Rizzo told us to go to the roof top to see amazing views of Central Park and the City.
There was also a fun Big Bird sculpture up there.
The views did not disappoint!
And just before the museum closed down due to "steam in the area" (whatever that means), we walked through the Egyptian section. Its a huge museum so we just hit a few of the major artifacts and paintings! And because they kicked us out early it ended up being free! Yay!
After some amazing street tacos and a brief rest we headed over to Flushing Meadows for our first session of the quarterfinals of the US Open!
We caught the end of a doubles match featuring Andy Murray's brother.
Then saw Krejcikova play Sabalenka in a women's Quarterfinal.
Sabalenka had no trouble pulling out the win.
In Arthur Ashe we had seats in the middle tier.
They did not disappoint!
The mens's quarterfinal was between Alcaraz and Felix Auger-Aliassime. I was really looking forward to this match but Alcaraz pulled out during the second set due to injury. Boo!
The following day we had tickets to the afternoon matches.
We got to see Raducanu beat Bencic. And she ended up winning the whole tournament so that was really neat!
Nicolle and I snuck over to the practice courts to see Leylah Fernandez warming up. She also made it to the finals!
Then we got to see the men's quarterfinals between Zverev and Harris.
Harris was not so happy when he lost the first set in a tie break and threw some water bottles all over the court that had to be cleaned up!
Zverev was impressive to watch!
Then we caught the end of the women's doubles match featuring Coco Gauff and McNally.
They were amazing and it was so much fun to watch their strategies! They also made it to the doubles final but sadly lost.
After our day session Michelle picked us up and took us to her neighborhood for a delicious Thai dinner that we took to a trendy park in Brooklyn called Domino Park.
The views were spectacular and it was the perfect way to close out our NYC trip!
Our picnic dinner.
My favorite and bestest sister.
Trying to hide for a solo shot of Greg and Nicolle. LOL
Falling asleep watching tennis before flying home the next day!
We had such a fun getaway in NYC getting to spend it with friends, seeing family, and watching some amazing tennis!
And of course it would not have been possible without the help of Grammie and Abuelo who came and stayed with the boys for us while we were gone!
Thank you so much for allowing us to escape! We plan to do this every 2 to 3 years because it was so much fun!
We can't wait to go back again!
