LegoFest!

For Christmas this past year we were given tickets to go to Lego fest in Raleigh from Auntie Tami, Uncle Greg, and cousin Gabi. The day had finally arrived and after recently seeing the very awesome Lego movie we were all very excited. 

We started the morning off over in the Lego City. Children could help add to the already set up city scene. For the first hour we were there Finley just wanted to look at every thing from a distance. He wasn't quite ready to build. 

We also saw an awesome display of Legoland and their new ride. 

Finley has put that high on his list of places to go and visit. 

There was a whole section dedicated to huge models or figures made out of Legos. Of course Emmet was a big hit for us as well as the Star Wars characters. 

This Darth Maul was particularly impressive. He looked so real I was ready for him to start moving at any minute. 

Of course I wanted my picture with Johnny Depp, I mean Captain Jack Sparrow. 

This replica of Lightning McQueen was made out of 325,000 Legos and weighed 3 tons! 

I am always so impressed by the pixel art using little Lego pieces. 

We ran into another Hulk. We saw one just like this up at the NYC Toys R Us. I wonder if it is the same one . . . 

Finally it was time to jump into some activities. We went over to the Chima section where Finley played with some speedors. 

Finley hasn't quite gotten the hang of doing them by himself so we had to help him out. 

We got one to go through the ring of fire though! 

Next we headed over to the huge pile of Legos in the middle of the convention center. I really wanted a cool picture of Finley laying in the midst of all the Leogs, but he just looks uncomfortable here. Plus the place was swarming with kids! 

Finley and David got down to work building! 

This is a little Darth Vader he created complete with a cape on the back. 

Next, we headed over to create a nation where you could build whatever you wanted on a little square and then add it to a huge map of the United States. 

Finley wanted his little pyramid placed in Alaska for some reason. 

While I was buying a few things in the store, Fin & David went over to watch a show going on. Kids were building bridges to see how much weight they could hold. I think the most one could hold was 25 lbs. 

We ran into another Emmet. This one was just Finley's size! 

We rounded out the tour over in the Duplo section. They had a really cool Bucky boat built out of big and small legos that you could play in. I so wish we had enough legos at home to build something like this. We had a great day looking at all the displays and also building with tons of Legos!

Say What!?

I know it has been a good while since our latest 'Say What!?' post. When life is busy I forget to write things down! But here are a few gems I want to remember: 

December '13 - Finley has been saying "Awwwww nuts" whenever he is upset about something. It cracks me up every time. David and I don't use this phrase, so I am thinking he gets it from Jake and the Neverland Pirates when they say 'Awww coconuts'. 

Jan 12 - Fin asked me to snuggle with him at bedtime tonight. I climbed into his bunk bed with him and told him there was room for me now that he was in his big boy bed. He then responded with 'Yeah and it can hold all this weight!' Ha! 

Jan 13 - David and Finley were playing Angry Birds Star Wars on his ipad tonight. Finley kept telling David to get that 'tent' get that 'tent'. It took us a while to figure out that he meant the "TNT" box. He was trying to read it instead of just say the letters. Too cute. 

Jan 18 - Tonight we got some Bojangles for dinner and Finley kept insisting it was called "Bonejangles".

Jan 27 - For FHE tonight we were coming up with 40 of our favorite memories of Grammie &
Abuelo as part of their anniversary gift. We asked Finley for his and he responded "When Grammie walked in the grass and stepped on a needle". Hmmm, I don't think that one is going to make the top 40 list!

Feb 3 - David won an XBox one at work recently. One of it's features is that it is voice activated. You can say 'Xbox turn on', etc. Well Finley has started trying to use the voice command on other objects, not just the Xbox. He will walk up to a door and say 'Door Open!'.

Feb 7 - During Fin's prayer tonight he prayed for 'Truth and Justice'. I am guessing he got that from one of his super hero comics or something.

Feb 23 - I asked Finley what he learned in Primary today to which he responded "Don't drop your egg". I kept trying to dig deeper to find out the hidden meaning behind the eggs, but he only kept telling me about not dropping or throwing the eggs. Oh well. The object lesson sure stuck with him!

Snowmageddon

SNOWMAGEDDON; An end of the world scenario caused by heavy amounts of snow in North Carolina, where everything shuts down until the earth decides to thaw out.

This is the biggest snow storm we have had in a decade! It snowed for two days straight. 

We got around 8 inches of snow! 

Finley wasn't use to his boots sinking down into the snow so much. 

We even had snow difts piled up around the edge of our house. 

David's office closed down for two days so we had a lot of fun (even though he still worked from home). We had some snow ball fights with the neighbors. 

Hiked a bit in the snow. Poor Finley got so worn out stomping around in his boots. We also made a few snow angels. 

And ate snow! Finley was a big fan of eating it right off of the ground. But we also made snow cream for the first time this year. It turned out really good! I think we might have to make that a new tradition. 

Of course we got in some good sledding too. 

Fin was even brave enough to go down by himself this time around. 

When we were all done sledding I kept telling Finley what a great job he did sledding by himself. 

He then proceeded to ask me what his reward was going to be for being so brave. 

Well after being cooped up in the house for three days straight, I can say we are all ready for the snow to melt and for spring to begin. We were all very grateful that we didn't lose power! Hope you survived the snowmageddon too!
